Back in the day, SXSW was a quiet, peaceful music and interactive festival in Austin, Texas. Then all of you people started showing up. So we developed a mobile web app called Avoid Humans to help folks escape the crowds. By reversing check-in data from Foursquare, Facebook and Instagram, Avoid Humans would show you the best places to eat, drink and socialize with the smallest crowds in real time. It became so popular, we rolled it out nationwide and then sold it to Google for $2.3 billion.*
